Best Bangkok bank account for expats in 2026

if ur receiving foreign payments look at bangkok bank's savings plus remittance routing, cheaper than kbank for inbound wires & there's a branch near riverside

Bangkok Bank's own inbound fee still bites, though.

yeah the inbound fee still stings but the receiving side is way less painful than kbank. for day to day i just use my kasikorn debit for scan payments and keep a Wise card for anything priced in foreign currency. branch on charoen krung handles the paperwork fine if u go early.

Wise stopped giving me a Thai account number last year, so check that before you rely on it.

Second this, though watch the fx markup on weekends

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Wise's weekend markup is the real catch, so time foreign-currency spends for weekdays and keep the debit for baht scan payments.

Riverside branch gets packed after 10.

Kasikorn's the one that actually still gives a Thai account number for inbound, so worth weighing that against the cheaper wire fee.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Kbank's passbook still works for that, unlike the app-only ones.

True, though the receiving fee depends on the currency, baht wires come in cheaper than USD ones in my experience. Just bring your passport and work permit or lease when you open it, they're strict about proof of address.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Their som tam is prob the most authentic I've found in the city, and the grilled chicken is always on point. Anyone else go here?

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
