Is it actually worth the trip or should I look elsewhere for a decent bagel? Any idea what a plain bagel with cream cheese runs there?

The Bagel Bar, Sukhumvit 23, cash only.

Cash only is the catch, grab a plain with cream cheese around 120 baht.

yeah and bring small notes, they get weird about breaking a 1000 for a 120 baht order. Also the everything bagel is closer to 140 now, prices crept up this year.

been there on a trip, sesame is better than plain and they close early-ish around 6pm so dont go late

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

totally agree on sesame, poppy is a close second for me. honestly i'd skip the weekday lunch rush around noon, the tiny seating area fills up fast and theres nowhere to wait. grab a bagel to go and eat it in Benjasiri Park.

sesame all the way, skip the weekend morning queue tho

arrow_drop_up -1 arrow_drop_down

Sesame's the move for sure, but they've been known to sell out of it by mid afternoon so don't bank on a 5pm run.

worth noting they've got a second branch on Thonglor Soi 13 now, way easier if you're staying that side. quality's the same imo, maybe slightly less crowded on weekends.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

cashier only takes bills under 500

soi 23 branch moved to a slightly bigger spot mid last year

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
