If you're driving, the car park fills up fast so aim to arrive before 8am. Anyone know if the motorcycle taxis at the soi entrance run that early?

The win motorsai guys at the soi 11 mouth are usually out by 6:30, but they thin out once the office crowd starts. If you're coming from farther south, the BRT to Sathon is worth a look, drops you near Narathiwat and skips the Sathon crawl entirely. Honestly the walk's still the safest bet.

yeah the 6:30 window is real, after 7 they're all gone up to the office towers. if u miss them just walk, it's flat the whole way and there's shade past the first block. BRT works too but the wait at the station can eat the time u saved.

walk from chong nonsi is shaded most of the way past the first block so its fine even at 8

Gate 2 off Thanon Chan is quicker tbh.

khlong toei pier then motosai, six fifty

six fifty sounds right from the pier side, but the boats thin out after that so don't bank on a later one. if u just miss it, the 35 bus down Rama IV is the fallback

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
