Curious about prices and whether you need to book ahead on weekends.

Been going for years, it's on Soi Sukhumvit 63 off Ekamai, not Yaowarat, so plan the BTS. Beef plates run 200 to 350 baht and the brisket is the pick. Weekends fill up after 7, call ahead or go early.

BTS Phra Khanong is the closer stop actually

arrow_drop_up 12 arrow_drop_down

yeah true, Phra Khanong side is a shorter walk if you cut through the sois. i usually just grab a motorbike from the station exit, costs like 20 baht and saves the sweat. traffic on that stretch after 6 is brutal tho.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Agree, though exit 3 is the shortcut side

Fair point, but Phra Khanong exit 1 drops you onto the even soi numbers, so it's a longer cross to the odd side than people expect.

Brisket's right, though I'd add the raw liver dropped in at the end, and soi 63 is a long walk so take the motorbike.

weekend queue peaks closer to 8 so 6:30 arrival still gets u a table without calling

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Ask for the outside tables, less smoke.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

the beef hotpot at Wangchun Sheng is legit but go on a weekday lunch if u can, way calmer. their tendon and tripe are the real draw for me over the standard cuts. weekends you'll want to call a day ahead or you're waiting outside.

Tendon goes rubbery if you let it sit, fish it out early

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
