Krua Dok Mai Kao reservations for 2026 trip?
Krua Dok Mai Kao is a bit of a misnomer in these threads, most people mean the shophouse spot on Soi Ari. Weeknights you can usually walk in before 7, after that it fills with office crowds. Expect around 250 to 400 baht a head with drinks. Calling ahead only really matters Friday.
Fair, though the shophouse moved a few doors down last year and the old sign is still up, so follow the smell of nam prik, not the address.

Yep the new spot's got the yellowed family photos, old one just has the empty shelves so u can tell em apart.
Agree on the pricing but add the cash-only detail, they don't take cards and the nearest ATM is a walk down Phahon Yothin.

6:30 is optimistic, i've seen the moo tod guy start queueing regulars by 6 on mondays
tbh if you're coming in March just ring them the week before, the place does a lot of family-style bookings and Songkran week gets messy. Also check they aren't closed for the occasional private merit ceremony, that one caught me out last year.
good call on the merit ceremonies, they usually post a handwritten note on the gate a few days ahead so swing by if u can. also ask about the upstairs room when u ring, it books out for family groups way before the main floor does
best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026
Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.
for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.
honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
