Kasikorn, Phrom Phong branch, lease plus passport.

which branch exactly? the Emporium one turned me away last year but the small one on soi 24 was fine with just lease and passport. ask for the savings account with the debit card, not the fixed deposit thing they push first.

Agree on the lease, but they've tightened up since January. The branch on Sukhumvit 33 wanted the lease plus a residence certificate from immigration, the TM30 printout alone wasn't enough. Worth getting that first, it saves a second trip.

Immigration on Chaeng Wattana does the residence certificate same day if you go before lunch, though the queue's brutal by 9am.

residence certificate takes 2 weeks at the local district office too

the phrom phong one still asks for a work permit if u want the app fully unlocked, lease alone gets u a basic passbook account

good call on that branch. one thing nobody mentioned, the K PLUS app needs your passport name to match exactly or they lock transfers until you go back in person. for overseas payouts i use Wise into the account, lands in a day and the fee's way less than a wire.

Bring the actual tambien baan or rental contract with landlord's ID copy, they turned me away with just a phone screenshot of the lease.

Make sure the lease has your landlord's ID copy stapled to it, that's the bit they actually check.

TMB Thanachart, Ari branch, Tuesday mornings.

Krungsri's been the easiest for me. the branch inside the mall near On Nut took passport plus lease and didnt even blink. for getting paid from abroad i use DeeMoney, way cheaper than the banks and it hits my account same day. just dont expect the app to be in english everywhere, half of it is still thai

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
