What are some interesting places to explore in the Ekkamai neighborhood?

17:00 start is smart, misses the worst heat. if u have time before, the little alley behind Ekkamai Soi 10 has some great tiny bars that only open after 6, and Don Quijote is worth a peek if u like vintage. 6km in 1.5 hrs is a chill pace so wear something comfy

wat pha si is the one most ppl walk past without noticing, it's tucked off the main road near soi 12 and the korean temple bit is actually a small shrine in a side compound. if ur doing 6km ending near ekkamai park, the food stalls along soi 10 after 6pm are worth the detour, moo ping & som tam for like 40 baht. meeting at thong lor bts is smart since ekkamai station gets packed around that time

Six kilometers is a solid route for that area, but tell people to bring water because the stretch along Sukhumvit Soi 63 has almost no shade once the sun drops. If the group ends near Ekkamai Park, the night market at J Avenue is a short walk away and the khao mok gai there is better than most places on the main strip. Also worth flagging that the Korean temple, Wat Pha Si, sits down a residential soi so the group will need to stay together or someone will get lost.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
