What are the best ways to experience Songkran celebrations?

I'm looking for recommendations on how to enjoy Songkran festivities. What are some of the most enjoyable and memorable ways to participate in the water festival celebrations? Head to Silom Road if you want the massive, chaotic water fight experience, but honestly I prefer the more traditional vibe around the old town. You can join locals making merit at temples like Wat Pho in the morning before things get too wet.

honestly the best way is to start early at wat arun around 7am before the crowds hit. you can pour water on the buddha statues and get blessed by monks, then walk over to the nearby pier for a boat ride on the river where locals toss water from the docks. most tourists miss that whole side of it and just go straight to the water guns

if u want a middle ground between chaos and tradition, try khao san road in the late morning then duck into the side sois for smaller street parties. the real move is renting a pickup truck with a water tank and cruising around, but that's better with a group. otherwise just grab a super soaker and walk silom or central world, you'll get soaked either way. bring a waterproof phone pouch and wear dark clothes that dry fast

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
