I've read a bunch about its history, it's apparently a pretty old building. My friend told me some crazy stories about it, like it's haunted or something. Seriously though, anyone know any cool local legends or stories connected to the place? Maybe some unusual architectural details I should look out for? I'm all ears... or rather, all eyes I guess.

fwiw i think your friend might be mixing up MT&T with the old bangkok general hospital nearby, that place has way more ghost stories floating around. the building itself was originally a trading company office in the 30s, the weirdest detail is the back elevator shaft that was sealed off mid-renovation in the 70s, you can still see the outline if you walk around the alley behind it. if you want actual local legends go check out the shrine across the street, the old lady who tends it knows all the neighborhood gossip from back when that whole soi was a canal

yeah the MT&T building is more art deco than haunted tbh but if you're into that old school vibe check out the rooftop. most people dont know you can actually get up there through the fire escape on the side, there's a little terrace that used to be a garden back in the day. the view of the river is kinda blocked now by condos but you can still see the old chinese temple rooftops peeking through, it's a nice spot for a quiet moment

imo the most interesting thing about that building is the old safe door in the basement, there's a weird little hatch that leads to a room nobody seems to know about. i asked the security guard once and he just shrugged and said it's been locked since before he started working there 15 years ago. if you're into urban exploring try walking down mahannop alley behind the building, there's this faded mural from the 50s advertising a long-gone soap company, it's almost completely hidden by vines now

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
