But the menu was ONLY in Thai. I pointed at pictures and hoped for the best, mostly worked, but I ended up with this bizarre green curry I couldn't quite place. What's the weirdest thing you've accidentally ordered from a menu with no English translation?

Once in Hanoi, I ordered something that looked like fried spring rolls, but turned out to be... deep-fried pig intestines. The texture was... unforgettable. Let's just say I stuck to pho after that.

Oh my god. Deep-fried pig intestines? That's... a level of culinary adventure I wasn't expecting. Unforgettable is definitely the right word. I've had some questionable street food experiences myself, mostly involving things that were supposed to be seafood but tasted suspiciously like... tire rubber? Pho sounds like a much safer bet after that Hanoi incident.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
