Bangkok's 71 Sports Club: Muay Thai Mystery

Is it all serious training and intense stares, or is there a more relaxed social side? I'm picturing a post-sparring hangout, maybe some street food vendors nearby? Anyone been? I really want to know what the atmosphere is like between the bouts.

the post-fight hangout is real but it's more of a low-key decompress than a party. people sit on the benches outside, scrolling phones, sipping water, maybe sharing a bag of crispy pork from the vendor who rolls through soi ekkamai around 7pm. if you want a proper chat, the 7-eleven two blocks up is where you'll overhear fighters arguing about pad angles over toasts and red bull. the gym itself stays pretty sparse, no music blasting, just the sound of bags and heavy breathing

honestly the social side at 71 is more about the shared grind than any big hangout scene. you'll see people cracking jokes between rounds or nodding at each other after a hard session, but it's not like a bar atmosphere. there's a few spots on Soi Ekkamai that do killer khao man gai if you want a quick post-training meal, just walk toward the main road. the real vibe is that everyone respects the work being put in, so its chill but focused.

you can usually spot the fighters at the little drink cart on the corner after sessions, not rowdy just standing around with those electrolyte bottles. the street food scene is solid if you walk toward the big intersection, there's a lady with a cart who does amazing grilled pork skewers for like 20 baht each. honestly the whole area has this worn-in feel, like everyone's just focused on their own thing but still friendly if you nod first

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
