Anyone been? Any tips on how to find it, or what to expect? Is it worth the hype? Because let's be honest, those old-school cocktail bars are my jam. I've already booked the luxury suite with the river view, but a dimly lit, clandestine bar experience would be the cherry on top of my Bangkok trip...

honestly the bamboo bar is lovely but the real hidden spot in that hotel is the authors lounge, it's on the same floor but tucked behind the main restaurant and most tourists walk right past it. they do afternoon tea there during the day but at night it turns into this quiet little cocktail spot with like 12 seats max, i've had nights where i was the only one in there. the bartender makes a mean siam sour with local whiskey and lemongrass, way more intimate than the bamboo bar which can get packed with instagram crowds

if you're staying at the mo anyway, skip the bamboo bar crowd and ask the concierge about the whisky library. it's not really a secret but it's a separate little room off to the side with leather chairs and a proper old world feel, they've got some crazy rare bottles and the staff actually chat with you instead of just making drinks. way more of that clandestine vibe than the main bar imo

the bambo bar's the real deal but honestly the hype around it being a "secret" is a bit overblown. it's just off the lobby, not hidden behind a bookshelf or anything. that said, the jazz nights there on thursdays are top notch and their thai basil smash is a must-try if you want something local with your cocktail. just book a table if you can, the walk-in wait can be brutal on weekends

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
