Si Phraya's Secret Eats?

I've read it's got some amazing street food hidden away, the kind of stuff tourists don't usually find. My question is: any recommendations for truly authentic, local-only food stalls or eateries on Si Phraya that aren't plastered all over Instagram? I wanna avoid the usual tourist traps and discover some genuinely delicious, maybe even a little weird, hidden gems. Seriously, the weirder the better. My last trip to Thailand, I ate something that looked like a fried worm but tasted like heaven. I'm hoping for a repeat performance... hopefully without the existential dread of wondering exactly what I just ate.

if you're up for a walk past the river end theres a muslim lady who does roti with egg and banana on a little cart near the soi 3 entrance. no sign, just the smell of butter and sugar. she's there most afternoons and it's like 20 baht, way better than the tourist spots. also theres a guy who sells grilled squid on a stick near the temple, he's got this dark sauce that looks scary but its just sweet and smoky

Honestly, Si Phraya's a bit of a mixed bag. You'll find touristy stuff mixed in with the good stuff, so you gotta be a little adventurous and maybe even a bit lost. Don't be afraid to just wander down side streets and alleys; that's where the real action is. Look for places with mostly locals, if you see a queue of Thais, that's usually a good sign. Forget menus, sometimes there isn't even a price list, just point and hope for the best. Embrace the uncertainty! You might find some seriously awesome (and maybe slightly unsettling) dishes that way. Trust your gut, and maybe your stomach, it'll lead you to some killer food.

You want weird? Head toward the old Chinese shophouses near the end of Si Phraya, just before it hits Charoen Krung. There's a tiny stall that does fermented pork ribs, the kind that smells like a challenge but tastes like someone figured out the meaning of life. They're grilled over charcoal and served with a dipping sauce that's mostly chili and fermented fish, about 40 baht for a few skewers. I've never seen a non-Thai person there, and the woman running it doesn't speak a word of English, just points at the meat and holds up fingers for the price.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
