Best Nai Kao Noodles?

Absolutely. The broth...holy moly. I'm still dreaming about it. But here's the thing: I ordered the "special", they didn't explain what was special about it. It came with this weird, slightly rubbery thing. A mystery meat? A local delicacy I should've known about? What was that?!

Sounds like you hit the jackpot! The "special" at Nai Kao often includes a type of meatball, sometimes a firmer texture than usual. It's not uncommon for places like that to have dishes where the "special" just means "more stuff," and they don't always spell it out. It's probably nothing to worry about, millions of people eat it. Next time, ask before ordering, though! You can't go wrong with the regular bowl either; that broth alone is a reason to visit again.

Haha, yeah, the "special" thing threw me. I figured it was just more noodles or something, not a weirdly dense meatball! Good to know it's a common thing, though. Thanks for the heads-up; I'll definitely ask next time. That broth was amazing... I'm already planning my return trip!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
