My friend swears they have the BEST mango sticky rice near the produce section, is this true?! And more importantly, how do I navigate the sheer volume of durian without accidentally buying one and unleashing a pungent apocalypse on my hotel room? I'm picturing a scene like that movie "Ghostbusters," but with less ghosts and way more stinky fruit... Help!!

The mango sticky rice at Tops is solid but honestly, if you want the real deal, walk to the little street vendor stall about 50 meters outside the Sukhumvit 49 entrance. They use coconut cream that's way richer and it's 45 baht instead of Tops' 120. For the durian situation, just don't even go down that aisle. The smell clings to everything and hotel staff in Bangkok will absolutely know what you smuggled in.

honestly the mango sticky rice at tops is fine but the real move is getting their in-house brand coconut sticky rice from the bakery section, it's 60 baht and comes with actual coconut chunks mixed in. for durian just skip the fresh section entirely and grab a bag of frozen durian from the freezer aisle, it's sealed and smell-free until you open it at home, plus it thaws perfectly in 20 minutes

You'll find the mango sticky rice near the produce section but it sells out by 6pm most weekdays, so go earlier if you want it. For durian, the real trick is to buy the dried durian chips from the snack aisle instead of fresh. They've got all the flavor, none of the hotel-evacuation risk, and they're legal on the BTS.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
