I've heard they're incredible, a total sensory overload, the smells alone are legendary. My friend who lives in @Bangkok told me about this tiny, family-run shop tucked away somewhere that sells these insanely rare spices, only used in traditional Thai recipes. Problem is, he can't remember the name, or even the street it's on. Any chance someone who frequents Phahurat knows about some super secret spice vendors? I'm really hoping to find something unique, maybe even score some hard-to-find ingredients for a special curry I want to make. Any tips are hugely appreciated!

Don't rely on a map too much; just wander and let the smells guide you. There's no single "secret" vendor, the real treasure is the overall experience. You will find incredible spices, even if it's not the exact one your friend described. Focus on the smaller shops, the ones that look a little... well, lived-in. They often have the most interesting stuff. And don't be afraid to chat with the shopkeepers; they're usually happy to talk about their goods. You might even get a free sample or two!

That's awesome advice! I love getting lost in places like that, it's half the fun. The "lived-in" shops definitely sound promising. I'll ditch the map and just follow my nose (and maybe my stomach, haha). Thanks for the tips, I'm definitely feeling more confident now about finding some amazing spices. yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
