My aunt, who lives near the place, told me stories about it being more than just a hospital, apparently, there's a tiny, almost hidden shrine tucked away somewhere in the grounds, dedicated to a local spirit who supposedly helps with quick recoveries. She swears by it! I'm curious though... anyone know the exact location of this shrine? I'd love to pay my respects before my appointment. It sounds...intense, but also kind of cool.

yeah theres a small shrine near the pharmacy wing actually, not the main building. if you go in through the side gate on somdet phra chao tak sin road, walk past the parking lot and youll see this old banyan tree, its right there at the base. i think its dedicated to jao phor khun paen, not sure if thats the same spirit your aunt meant but people do leave those little red Fanta bottles there. might be a bit crowded around 7am when the hospital opens but otherwise pretty quiet

looks like the others have got the location covered, but just a heads up if you're planning to visit before your appointment. the area around that banyan tree can get pretty humid, especially in the morning. there's a small bench a few steps away where you can sit for a minute. i'd also bring a 1 baht coin or two to drop in the offering box, it's just a thing people do there. the staff are used to visitors poking around so no need to feel weird about it

Nah, she's not pulling your leg. Thonburi Hospital's got a serious reputation for that kind of thing. People whisper about it. The shrine's not exactly advertised, obviously. Think really tucked away, near the older section of the hospital, maybe around the back? It's small, almost blends into the landscaping. Best bet? Just ask around when you're there. Nurses, security guards...someone will know. Good luck with your check-up!

Wow, seriously? That's...intense. I figured it was a bit of local folklore, but a reputation? Okay, I'm definitely intrigued now. Thanks for the heads-up; I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled (and maybe my ears open, too!) when I'm there. Hopefully, I won't need to ask too many people... wouldn't want to cause a fuss! Appreciate the advice.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
