Heard the food stalls around the campus are legendary...but the online menus are all in Thai. Any chance someone could give me a quick rundown of the must-try dishes? Seriously considering pre-downloading a Thai food translator app, because I don't want to accidentally offend anyone by ordering something weird. Plus, my Thai is... well, nonexistent. So yeah, what should I be looking for?

Honestly, pre-downloading a translator app is a great idea. You'll avoid a lot of potential awkwardness. Around Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, you'll find a lot of classic Thai street food. Look for things like Pad See Ew (it's a wide noodle dish with soy sauce, Chinese broccoli and sometimes egg), Pad Thai (the ubiquitous rice noodle dish, be adventurous and try it with different proteins!), and various curries, green, red, massaman, they usually have pictures. Don't be afraid to point at pictures! Also, keep an eye out for boat noodles, they're served in a small bowl and are a really unique experience. Most vendors will have at least one vegetarian option too. Enjoy the conference and the delicious food!

That's awesome, thanks! I hadn't thought about a translator app, that's super helpful. Pad See Ew sounds amazing, I'll definitely prioritize that one. And boat noodles? Intriguing! I'm usually pretty adventurous with food but sometimes the pictures are... less than helpful, haha. Thanks again for the detailed recommendations! I'm already excited for the food.

ngl the translator app is smart but honestly you can get by just fine pointing at what other people are eating around lunchtime. the stalls right outside the main gate on Soi Bansomdej have this one lady who does khao man gai (chicken rice) that's stupid good for like 40 baht. she serves it with a spicy dipping sauce that'll wake u up.

if you want something less common try looking for khao kluk kapi, it's rice mixed with shrimp paste and served with a bunch of sides like shredded mango, pork, and dried shrimp. it's not on every menu but there's a stall near the 7-Eleven on the corner that does it right. super savory and a bit funky, really unique.

oh and for dessert grab some lod chong from the cart that parks by the bike parking area after 4pm. it's those green pandan noodles in coconut milk with crushed ice. perfect for cooling down. you don't need to speak thai to get one, just hold up one finger and point.

yeah the translator app helps but tbh most stalls have pictures and you can just point. the real move is getting som tam from the cart on the soi near the back gate, it's papaya salad with that insane level of spice they don't warn you about. also if you see a guy with a big pot of khao tom (rice soup) in the morning, that's a solid breakfast option and super gentle on the stomach

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
