I've heard whispers about the sheer volume of paperwork involved in visa applications, is it truly as nightmarish as the online forums say? My friend, a Nigerian-American, told me stories about waiting for hours, only to get a seemingly arbitrary rejection. The whole thing sounds more stressful than navigating Bangkok's rush hour traffic, and that's saying something. I'm meticulously organized, but still kinda worried. Any tips for a smoother experience would be greatly appreciated!

the embassy is on wireless road, right near the british embassy and allahabad bank. not the easiest spot to find parking if you're driving, but the bts chit lom station is a short walk. if you're coming from the phloen chit side, grab a coffee at rungroj thai, it's a legit old-school spot across from the french embassy, way better than the chain stuff near the station.

not sure about the embassy process itself but the area around wireless road is a pain if u have to wait around. there's a tiny food court in the all seasons place building that's decent for lunch, mostly office workers so it's cheap. bring a book or something, the waiting area situation is not great from what i've heard from friends who dealt with them. if u get rejected or delayed, the surawongse hotel rooftop bar is a good spot to decompress and watch the sunset over the city, puts things in perspective

fwiw the embassy isnt the only place u gotta worry about. if you're flying into bangkok with a nigerian passport they might grill u at immigration too, even with a valid visa. i've seen people get pulled aside for secondary screening at suvarnabhumi just because the officer was having a slow day. bring a printed copy of your hotel booking and return flight, dont just rely on your phone

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
