Anyone know the best way to navigate the whole "negotiating prices" thing without feeling like a total idiot? My friend said it's all about subtle body language, but I'm not exactly a James Bond type. Seriously though, any tips from someone who's been there and lived to tell the tale would be appreciated. I've seen some videos and photos, but I want to be prepared, not just entertained by the chaos. Hopefully, I can get a feel for the local vibe beyond the neon lights and... you know... the rest.

Just be polite and firm. Don't be afraid to walk away if a price feels unreasonable, there are plenty of other places. Smiling and making eye contact shows you're serious but not aggressive. Most importantly, know your limits, both financially and what you're comfortable with. Don't get hammered first; clear headed negotiations are key. And yeah, it's a sensory overload; try to focus on enjoying the atmosphere before the bargaining starts. It's a scene, but don't let it overwhelm you.

Solid advice. Totally agree on the "know your limits" part. Went there once, and the sheer volume of things going on was... intense. Almost felt like I needed a vacation from my vacation after that. The polite but firm approach is definitely the way to go, though. Less hassle that way.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
