Bulk Buying Blunder?

Ende… So, I went to this massive warehouse place, right? Thought I'd be smart, stock up on everything. Turns out, their bulk discounts only really kick in if you're buying, like, a pallet of something. Ended up with enough soy sauce to last me until the next ice age...and a serious case of buyer's remorse. Seriously, how much ketchup does one person need?! Anyone else ever totally overestimate their needs at a place like this?

The real mistake is going to a place like that without a game plan. Makro is fine for certain things but their pricing on sauces and condiments is actually worse than what you'd get at Villa or even Big C during a sale. I always check the price per unit on the shelf tag before grabbing anything, and anything over a liter of a single condiment is usually a bad idea unless you're running a restaurant. Next time just hit up your local Talad Thai for fresh stuff and buy your soy sauce one bottle at a time from the corner shop.

ngl the real bulk trap is forgetting how much space stuff takes up in a bangkok kitchen. i live in a condo with a tiny counter and now i have a 3-liter bottle of chili oil blocking my toaster. makro on ratchadaphisek is decent for splitting with friends but their membership card thing is annoying if u forget it. next time just hit up a local talat nat or wet market for loose amounts, the vendors will sell u exactly one bottle of soy sauce no judgment

Those warehouse stores are a dangerous place for anyone without a commercial kitchen. I live in a condo near Ekkamai and learned the hard way that my pantry is basically two cabinets, so a five-liter jug of cooking oil became a permanent counter fixture for months. For future runs, try checking out the smaller Makro branches, like the one on Sukhumvit 50, they sometimes have better single-unit prices on sauces without requiring you to buy in bulk. Or just walk to your local Talad Thai for produce and grab your condiments from a minimart, you'll avoid the impulse to stock up on ketchup you don't need.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
