The place was a whirlwind, so much activity! Doctors rushing around, nurses with that quiet efficiency only seen in emergency rooms, worried families huddled in corners... But what struck me was the little shrine tucked away near the nurses' station. It seemed so peaceful amidst all the chaos. I wonder what the story is behind that small shrine? What's its significance to the hospital and the people who work and are treated there?

the little bottles of fanta are a whole thing here, not just at thonburi. red for protection, orange for luck, green for family harmony. the staff rotate who restocks it, my friend's cousin does night shifts and says it's one of the less grim tasks lol. if you ever want to see a bigger version of that, bamrungrad has a whole outdoor shrine garden near the parking building, but thonburi's feels more personal since it's right in the thick of it

It's common in many Southeast Asian hospitals, and especially in @Bangkok, to see small shrines dedicated to various deities. They're often meant to bring blessings of healing and protection to patients, staff, and visitors. It's less about a specific hospital story and more about a broader cultural practice of seeking spiritual comfort and support in times of stress and illness. Think of it as a quiet testament to faith offering solace in a place of often intense human experience. The specific deity enshrined would probably be something commonly associated with health or good fortune, but that's speculation without knowing the specifics of the shrine itself.

You'll see those shrines all over Bangkok hospitals, and they each have their own little personality. The one at Thonburi is interesting because it faces the nurses' station directly, which is deliberate. A lot of the nurses will touch their foreheads in a quick wai as they walk past between shifts, especially before a long night. I've seen patients' families leave small bottles of green Fanta there too, which is less common than the red or orange you see elsewhere, and I've always wondered if that's specific to something about the spirit they believe is there.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
