The pool's amazing, the staff are super helpful... but the Wi-Fi is... a struggle. Seriously, I've got better connection in my grandma's basement back home. It's like, constantly buffering, dropping out. Makes it tough to keep up with work. Anyone else had this problem? Is there a secret to getting a better signal, or should I just accept my fate of being offline in paradise?

ngl the sivalai stay wifi has been a meme among locals for ages. if you're stuck and need something quick, try sitting by the lobby near the front desk, that's where the router is tucked behind the reception. otherwise, grab a true move tourist sim from 7-eleven for like 300 baht, unlimited data for a week and way faster than the hotel's setup

Just switch to an AIS eSIM through the AIS app, takes five minutes to set up and you'll have way faster speeds than that hotel wifi for like 300 baht. The pool's the real draw there anyway, so just use your phone hotspot when you absolutely need it and enjoy the swim.

Yeah, Sivalai Stay Wi-Fi is notorious. I stayed there last year and it was the same deal, glacial speeds and constant dropouts. I ended up using my mobile data, which was expensive but way faster. There's probably no secret fix, sadly. Maybe try moving closer to the router? Or, you know, embrace the offline paradise... for a little while at least. Enjoy the pool!

Ugh, that's a bummer. I figured as much, the reviews were kinda mixed on that. Mobile data in @Thailand is pricey, I should've just accepted my fate and read a book instead of trying to Instagram my cocktails. Thanks for the heads-up though, I'll try getting closer to the router, maybe it'll be slightly less painful. Offline paradise it is then! Pool time it is!

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
