I've heard amazing things about their international patient care, but also read some horror stories online about billing and stuff...Anyone have recent experience navigating the insurance side of things there? Seriously freaking out a little.

Fwiw I had a smaller procedure at Bangkok Hospital last year and the billing was fine but only because I brought a thai speaking friend. The international desk speaks english but the fine print is all in thai. If you can get someone thai to sit with you during the pre op financial talk they'll catch stuff like the 7% vat they try to add on top of quoted prices. Also ask for the "package price" upfront, they have set rates for most procedures that include everything, way less surprise charges later

ngl the insurance side is a mess but it's usually fixable if you're proactive. most of the big hospitals like bnh or bumrungrad have a dedicated international insurance coordinator, ask for them by name when you check in. also get everything in writing from your insurer before you fly, a pre-auth letter with specific coverage amounts, because the hospital will ask for a deposit that can hit 500k baht or more if you're not prepared.

Totally get the anxiety. Big surgery in a foreign country is a huge deal. I haven't had personal experience with insurance in @Bangkok hospitals, but a friend did a similar thing last year at Bumrungrad. She raved about the doctors and nurses, but the billing process was... intense. She ended up needing a specialist to help navigate everything with her insurer back home, like, someone who actually understands international medical billing codes. Maybe looking into a medical tourism agency before your trip could be a good idea? They often handle all that pre-authorization and claim stuff, which sounds way less stressful than doing it yourself on the ground. Good luck! Hope everything goes smoothly.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
