My question is: how crazy busy does the rooftop bar get, especially at sunset? I'm hoping for a romantic vibe, not a packed sardine can. Last time I tried a "romantic" rooftop bar in @HongKong, it was a total zoo. I need to know if I should make reservations or just wing it.

Sunset at the Sivalai Stay rooftop bar in Bangkok is very popular. Think less romantic, more "scene." Reservations are absolutely essential if you want anything resembling a quiet, intimate experience. Otherwise, yeah, it'll be a crush. It's a great bar, don't get me wrong, but if romance is the goal, maybe explore some quieter rooftop options or even a nice riverside restaurant for sunset. You'll have a much better chance of avoiding the crowds and getting that vibe you're after.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
