Vanished. Apparently, this place has a bit of a... reputation for... things going missing. Anyone else had this happen? What's the deal? I need some tips on how to deal with the hotel management, or maybe a local shaman to help me find my missing socks. Seriously, where are my socks?

That's awful! The Beat Hotel... yeah, I've heard whispers. Not exactly known for its airtight security, shall we say.

First, immediately report it to the hotel management, get everything documented. Times, dates, what's missing, everything. A police report might be a good idea too, even if it feels like overkill for socks (seriously, though, where are your socks?). They'll probably have a standard procedure, and getting that ball rolling is crucial.

Then, depending on what's missing (beyond the socks!), consider contacting your travel insurance. They might cover some, or even all, of the lost items.

As for the local shaman... well, that's up to you. But honestly, sticking to the official channels first is probably your best bet for getting your stuff back. Good luck, and I hope your socks reappear soon!

Yeah, the "whispers" are putting it mildly! It's less a hotel and more a... situation. Thanks for the advice; I already filed a report with the hotel, the manager seemed less than surprised, which is... unsettling. Police report's next. It's not just socks, sadly. My passport's gone, and my meds. The socks are the least of my worries, believe me. Travel insurance is definitely on the cards. The shaman thing... yeah, I'm leaning towards "official channels" for now, unless the passport doesn't turn up. Thanks again!

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
