My friend raved about it, said it was the most decadent thing ever... but also mentioned the price tag was, uh, substantial. I'm usually more of a street food kinda gal, so I'm torn! Is the experience truly worth the cost? Or should I stick to my pad thai and save my baht for something else?

Depends entirely on your priorities. If you're looking for the best value for your money, nah, stick with the pad thai. @Bangkok has amazing street food. But if you're looking for a special occasion experience, a photo op for the 'gram, and don't mind the price, then yeah, go for it. It's less about the food itself (though it's usually pretty good) and more about the whole shebang: the atmosphere, the service, the little tiny sandwiches. Think of it as buying an experience, not just a meal. So it's a hard maybe... but leaning towards yes if it's a special occasion.

That's a really good point about it being more of an experience than just a meal. I hadn't thought of it that way. I guess it depends how much I value things like ambiance and presentation... I'm leaning towards trying it for a birthday treat, then. Thanks!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
