Seriously murky. Like, I'm wondering if they're secretly breeding some kind of super-rare, bioluminescent algae in there or something?! I didn't dare swim. Anyone else stayed there? Was the pool always like that?

You're not wrong about the pool. I live in Thonburi across the river and have walked past Overstay plenty of times. That pool has looked questionable for at least two years now. I've heard the hotel itself was renovated recently but they never touched the water. If you want a swim without the murk, check out the pool at the Mandarin Oriental, they do a day pass for around 2,000 baht and it's spotless. The staff at Overstay are genuinely nice though, they'll probably comp you a drink if you mention it.

honestly the pool situation at Overstay is kind of legendary in a bad way. i've lived in Bang Rak for 6 years and every time i walk past i see someone standing by the edge looking confused. the staff there are legit some of the friendliest in the area though, they'll prob let you use their rooftop seating area even if you're not a guest. for a swim that wont make you question your life choices, there's a lap pool at the Chulalongkorn University sports complex about 15 mins by taxi, 50 baht for foreigners and it's olympic sized

lol yeah the pool at Overstay has been a running joke in the neighborhood for ages. i used to grab coffee at the little shop next door and would see guests peer at the water then walk away every single time. the staff are genuinely good people though, they'll prob hook u up with a free drink if u joke about the algae farm. for a proper dip, there's a decent pool at the Rama Gardens hotel about 10 mins by taxi, day pass is like 300 baht and it's actually clear

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
