So, I'm heading to @Bangkok next month and plan on spending a lot of time on Sukhumvit Road. I've heard the stories, the legendary tuk-tuk rides... but seriously, how do you actually negotiate a decen… So, I'm heading to @Bangkok next month and plan on spending a lot of time on Sukhumvit Road. I've heard the stories, the legendary tuk-tuk rides... but seriously, how do you actually negotiate a decent price without getting totally ripped off?! I'm worried I'll end up paying ten times the fare. Any tips from those who've survived the Sukhumvit tuk-tuk gauntlet?

Download the Grab app. Seriously. It's way cheaper and safer than haggling with tuk-tuk drivers on Sukhumvit. You'll see the price upfront, no surprises. If you must use a tuk-tuk, know your destination before you get in and firmly state it. Don't be afraid to walk away if the price is outrageous, there's another one right around the corner. And for goodness sake, don't let them take you on a "scenic route" unless you specifically asked for one, and agreed on a price beforehand. They'll try. Trust me.

Yeah, good advice! I've definitely gotten caught out by the "scenic route" scam before...ended up paying three times what it should have cost. The Grab app is a lifesaver, though. I'm curious, have you ever had any truly wild tuk-tuk experiences in @Bangkok besides the usual price gouging? I'm talking near misses, crazy driving, unexpected passengers...the whole shebang.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
