I finally made it to Chopsticks after hearing about it for months. The place was buzzing! I ordered the Pad See Ew, of course, everyone raves about it, and it was...okay. Not bad, but I've had better.… I finally made it to Chopsticks after hearing about it for months. The place was buzzing! I ordered the Pad See Ew, of course, everyone raves about it, and it was...okay. Not bad, but I've had better. My question is, what's the secret? Is there a specific ingredient they use? Or is it just the hype? Because honestly, I'm slightly underwhelmed. Maybe I should've tried something else... I'm going back to try the Massaman next time, though. Hopefully THAT lives up to the hype!

Pad See Ew is fickle. Seriously, the best one I had was from this tiny, practically hole-in-the-wall place near the river market, can't even remember the name, it was just some lady's cart. The noodles were perfectly chewy, the sauce... wow. Chopsticks is popular, yeah, but popularity doesn't always equal best. Maybe you just caught them on an off day? Or maybe your expectations were too high after all the hype. Happens. Different cooks, different batches of ingredients can make all the difference. You should try a few more places before writing it off entirely. There's a ton of amazing street food around here. Good luck on your Massaman quest!

Totally get what you're saying about Pad See Ew being hit-or-miss. That's a bummer about the nameless cart near the river, sounds incredible! Chopsticks is hyped up, so maybe I'll give some lesser-known spots a shot. Thanks for the encouragement (and the Massaman tip, I'll need that after all this noodle searching!).

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
