Go-Go Bar Etiquette?

My question is: what's the unspoken etiquette? Like, is it okay to just wander around and people-watch, or is that considered rude? Do I need to buy a drink if I'm just observing? I don't want to offend anyone, you know? I'm thinking of just going early, before it gets too wild, maybe grab a Singha and soak it all in. I should probably learn a few basic Thai phrases too, right? It feels like a whole different world. It'll be my first time in this kind of place, and I wanna make sure I don't accidentally do something totally wrong.

ngl the people-watching is the main event for a lot of locals too, even thai guys go there just to stroll through and grab a beer. one thing nobody mentioned is the photo rule - don't take pictures of the girls or the bar interior unless you ask first, some places are chill but others will get pissy. if you want a less intense version of the scene, grab a seat at the long bar at the back of cowboy, you can see the whole street from there and it's more lowkey than being inside a gogo. also the street food cart at the soi cowboy entrance, the one with the grilled pork skewers, is actually solid and like 15 baht each

honestly just walk in and find a spot at one of the bars, grab a singha and watch. the girls are used to tourists staring, it's part of the deal. if you sit at a bar and don't order, the mamasan will probably ask you to move along, but one drink buys you an hour of people watching easy. for thai phrases, just learn "khob khun" and a smile, anything more and they'll assume you know what you're doing lol. go around 8pm before the loud music kicks in, it's way more relaxed

Soi Cowboy is... a scene. People-watching is totally fine, most folks are just there to do their own thing. But yeah, if you're sitting at a bar, buy a drink. It's basic politeness, even if you're just chilling and watching. Think of it like the price of admission to the show. Going early is smart, less crowded, less intense. A Singha is a good choice. Knowing a few basic Thai phrases is a good idea, but even just a smile and a "Sawasdee" goes a long way. Don't worry too much about messing up, most people there are used to tourists. Just be respectful, don't be a creep, and you'll be golden. Have fun, but be aware of your surroundings.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
