Been hearing whispers about the insane street food scene. Spent the whole afternoon weaving through these impossibly narrow lanes, the air thick with the smell of frying garlic and something sweet I can't quite place. Found this tiny stall tucked away, run by a woman with hands that moved faster than I could blink. Best Pad See Ew of my life, hands down. Seriously, the noodles were perfectly chewy, the sauce rich and savory. But... I'm dying to know, where do the locals get their morning coffee? Every stall I passed was all about the lunch rush. Seriously confused and slightly caffeinated-deprived.

if u want something less sweet than the usual street coffee, go to on lok yun on soi charoen krung 22. it's a hainanese place that's been open since the 1930s, they do a proper drip coffee with evaporated milk that's not cloying. opens at 4am and fills up with older chinese thai regulars reading newspapers. grab a slice of their toasted bread with kaya while you're there

okay so you hit mit samphan which is legendary for food but coffee there is basically nonexistent. the real move is to go to yaowarat road around 6am and find the guy with the blue cart near the old siam plaza entrance, he does "galafae" which is this crazy strong instant coffee whipped with ice and sweetened condensed milk until it's almost like a milkshake. costs like 30 baht and he'll throw in a free piece of toast with butter if you're nice, it's not fancy but it's the only thing that gets the market workers through the morning

lol the replies here are all solid but nobody mentioned the cart on mahannop road near klong toei market. there's a little old lady with a thermos strapped to her bicycle, she shows up around 5am and pours gaffe into those tiny plastic cups with a saucer, like 10 baht. it's basically liquid rocket fuel, super dark and sweet, she adds a pinch of salt which cuts the bitterness perfectly. grab a roti from the stall across the street while you're there, the guy makes them fresh with egg and condensed milk

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
