I've been to the first two before; Dan Neramit was quiet earlier this year, while Rama IX was enjoyable in 2023.

fwiw the only one i'd skip is dan neramit, it's got that weird mall-adjacent energy that kills the night market vibe. rama ix is still solid but the ratchada one has a slightly better food section imo, more variety in the isaan stalls and a couple of the bigger beer gardens feel less cramped. if you're going on a friday or saturday night just expect to shuffle through the crowds regardless, that's just how jodd fairs roll here

if you're going for the shopping more than the food i'd actually pick rama ix again, the layout makes it easier to browse without getting stuck in the same bottlenecks. the ratchada one has wider aisles but the stalls are arranged in these long rows that make u feel like u're walking through a hallway, kinda kills the wandering vibe. dan neramit is only worth it if u're already in that area for something else, like catching a movie at central rama 9 then walking over. also the grilled squid at rama ix near the entrance by the big beer garden is still the best i've had across all three, the guy uses a different marinade that's sweeter

ngl the real difference between these spots isnt the food or the vibe, it's how late they actually stay open. dan neramit starts packing up by 10pm even on weekends, rama ix pushes to midnight easy, and ratchada sometimes keeps going past 1am on fridays. if you're a night owl like me, ratchada wins by default. also the parking situation at ratchada is way better, that underground lot off ratchadaphisek road saves u from circling for 20 mins like at rama ix

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
