I don't have specific hidden family businesses to recommend, but I'd suggest just wandering around the side streets – especially the ones running parallel to the river. Look for places with handwritten signs in Thai; that's usually a good indicator of a local favorite. Also, check out the smaller sois (alleys) branching off Si Phraya itself; you'll find some real surprises there. Happy hunting!
