What are your New Year's Eve plans if you don't drink alcohol?

I don't want to drink or get stuck in a place during the massive traffic rush to get back home. I'm single and won't be spending it at home with a partner. Any suggestions? The river cruise dinner boats are actually pretty solid for solo non-drinkers. Most of them serve mocktails and fresh juice, and you get a full meal with a view of the fireworks along the Chao Phraya. The trick is booking one that departs from a non-central pier like Sathorn or Nonthaburi, you'll avoid the worst of the traffic crush getting home since they dock closer to the BTS or a main road. I'd recommend the ones that leave around 7pm, you're back by 10:30 before the real gridlock hits.

Bangkok's got some amazing temples. Consider visiting Wat Arun or Wat Pho for a peaceful and stunning New Year's Eve. Many will be open late, and the atmosphere is usually pretty serene, a welcome contrast to the party chaos. Plus, you can get some incredible photos. Afterwards, grab some delicious street food, there'll still be plenty around, even late at night.

dude just hit up one of those rooftop bars with mocktails. most have a vibe even without booze and you can dip before the countdown if you want. beats fighting traffic for hours alone tbh

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
