How congested are Thong Lor and Phrom Phong BTS stations during weekday mornings?

I'm considering moving to a condo near either Thong Lor or Phrom Phong BTS. I'd be commuting on weekday mornings around 7:30, 8:30 am, and I'm curious about how crowded these stations get at that time. Is it manageable, or should I expect to wait for multiple trains before I can board?

I've lived near both and I think people overstate the chaos a bit. At Thong Lor you get the international school crowd on Sukhumvit 55 around 7:45 so the flow from the street to the train can feel sluggish, but once you're on the platform it clears fast. Phrom Phong is worse in terms of absolute numbers because the Bhiraj Tower and Emporium office workers all hit around 8:20, but the trains come every 3-4 minutes so you rarely wait more than one. The real difference is that Phrom Phong's platform is narrower near the main stairs so you'll be standing in a clot of people just trying to get to the middle. If you're going toward Mo Chit, both are fine. If you're going toward Samrong, Thong Lor is noticeably easier because more people get off before you hit the Ekkamai bottleneck.

both are rough at that time tbh. phrom phong tends to be a bit worse because of all the office towers like emquartier and the bhiraj building so the platform fills up fast. thong lor has less direct office traffic but you get the school crowds mixed in rn. either way you'll probably squeeze onto the first or second train, it's not like waiting 4 trains bad unless there's a signal problem

Prepare for a Bangkokian-style shoulder-to-shoulder experience. Think sardines in a can, but with slightly better air conditioning (sometimes).

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
