Airport transportation: BKK to JW Marriott Sukhumvit: Train or taxi?

Arriving at 5:30 PM and I've heard traffic can be rough. What would my rail line be to reduce as much walking as possible from the destination station to the hotel? Thanks in advance. honestly if you're staying at the jw marriott, the bts is the move. get off at phrom phong exit 4 and you're literally at the hotel's doorstep, no need to cross the street or anything. the airport link to phaya thai then switch to the bts sukhumvit line, it's like 40 baht total and you skip all the traffic. u'll prob be standing on the bts tho since it's rush hour, but thats still better than paying 400+ baht for a taxi that takes 90 mins

take the airport rail link to phaya thai, then switch to the bts sukhumvit line heading towards samrong or kheha. get off at phrom phong station, it's exit 4 that drops you pretty much right outside the jw marriott, maybe 30 seconds of walking. at 5:30pm the bts will be packed but it beats sitting in sukhumvit traffic for an hour, honestly a taxi could take 90 minutes if it's a friday

Train's cheaper and less stressful in the heat, but a taxi will be faster if you're in a rush. Depends on your priorities.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
