CHATUCHAK IN THE AFTERNOON?

Hey everyone, im only here for the weekend and was wondering if the stalls are open in the afternoon? or should I come in the evening? Hey everyone, im only here for the weekend and was wondering if the stalls are open in the afternoon? or should I come in the evening?

The weekend market officially runs from 9am to 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays, so you've got time. But honestly, the stalls start packing up around 5pm and the section near Kamphaeng Phet station gets pretty quiet by 5:30. If you're only here for the weekend, go straight to the plant and pet sections in the morning when it's cooler.

Most stalls are open from about 9am until 6pm or so, but the real problem is the heat. By 2pm you'll be melting walking through those narrow aisles. I'd aim for late afternoon around 4pm if you can, the light is better for photos and the crowds thin out a bit. Just keep in mind the JJ Green night market vibe is a totally different thing and doesn't really overlap with Chatuchak's daytime market hours.

Chatuchak's stalls are mostly open by late morning and start winding down around 5 or 6pm, so afternoon works but you'll be fighting the heat. The indoor sections along Soi 1 and 2 have better air circulation and tend to stay open a bit later than the outdoor clothing areas. Grab a fresh coconut from the stall near the clock tower before you dive in, it's 30 baht and makes the whole experience more bearable.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
