Where to spend NYE countdown in BKK?

Ideally, we'd like to have dinner there as well, but I won't arrive in Bangkok until 9 PM, so we might have dinner separately and just meet at the venue for the countdown.

Any suggestions? We're not looking for a party scene, just a relaxed spot that has a New Year's countdown.

Since you land at 9 PM, staying near your hotel makes more sense than crossing town. Riverside spots around ICONSIAM and Asiatique run countdowns with fireworks over the Chao Phraya, and there's food everywhere so you can eat whenever you get there. Asiatique is walkable, open late, and less of a committed party than a club, more families and couples. Just book a Grab early because the roads near the river get gridlocked after 10 PM and the BTS will be packed.

Rooftop bars with a view are always a solid bet for NYE in Bangkok. Or, if you want something less... expensive, find a packed street party, the energy's infectious.

honestly the riverside spots get so packed that by 10pm you cant even walk. if you want chill, look at the areas around Lumphini or Benjakitti park. some of the hotels there do a low key countdown on their terraces, way fewer people, and you can still see fireworks in the distance. dinner wise most places near there close the kitchen around 10 so eat before you head out.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
