Anyone got a place in mind? I can pay to an extent but not 3000 baht or above. Thank you!

If you want to skip the grill-your-own hassle and still get serious volume, head to Bubba's on Soi 33. They do a 900-gram Australian ribeye for around 2,200 baht, which is pushing your budget but not over it, and the meat is properly aged so it's tender enough to actually finish. The vibe is a bit dark and whisky-heavy, but if you're just there to eat in silence, it works. Alternatively, the Argentine place, La Monita, on Sukhumvit 49/9 has a 700-gram bife de chorizo for about 1,600 baht, and they're generous with the chimichurri, which helps if the cut runs a little tough. Both beat the buffet route if you want something that feels like a proper meal, not a project.

El Toro on Sukhumvit 23 does a serious tomahawk that'll feed two, but if you're flying solo and want pure volume, the 600-gram ribeye at Smokin' Pug is your move. It's around 1,800 baht, comes with a decent side, and they don't overcook it unless you ask. The place is a bit of a hole in the wall near Phrom Phong, but the beef is always fresh and they don't mess around with sauces if you just want salt and pepper.

honestly, if you want pure volume without the steakhouse markup, hit up one of the big BBQ buffets like Best Beef on Ekkamai. it's like 500 baht and you can grill yourself like 10 plates of beef, not fancy but definitely giant and chewy. just go early or you'll wait forever.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
