BKK Storytelling Shows in English?

honestly if you want something closer to the moth format, check out The Jam Factory in Khlong San. they do occasional storytelling nights in English called "True Stories Told Live" - it's a bit more curated than the bar open mics, usually themed, with a proper stage and mic setup. entry is free most times but they pass a hat for donations

i'd also keep an eye on Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) events page, they'll sometimes host narrative-style shows that pop up during their fringe festival periods. nothing regular but when they land they're usually high quality

Yeah, there's a group called Bangkok Storytellers that does events sometimes, usually at bars or cafes around Thong Lo. Not sure how often they run though, so you might have to check their Facebook page.

the bangkok storytellers one is right, but there's also spoken word stuff at speak easy bar on soi 11 that occasionally crosses over into storytelling territory. they do an open mic every wednesday where people tell personal stories alongside poetry and music. it's more raw and less produced than the moth but you get some wild nights there. drinks are like 150 baht and the crowd is a mix of expats and thais who speak english

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
