I will be working US hours so need a place that is generally quiet from 5am-1pm. I would like to have good walkability also though for nightlife activities and things to do without always having to take a taxi everywhere. What areas would You recommend?

Ekkamai is probably your best bet. It's got a solid mix of bars and restaurants along the main strip, but the soi side streets stay quiet, especially in the morning. Thonglor is too loud and congested for what you need, and you'll pay way more for the privilege. For your sleep schedule, look for a condo on a soi off Sukhumvit 63, not right on the main road.

Phra Khanong's a good middle ground. The area around W District has plenty of bars and a night market you can stumble to, but the residential sois off Sukhumvit 71 are super quiet in the mornings. Plus the BTS is right there if you do want to head into Thonglor or wherever.

honestly, ari is worth looking at. it's way less chaotic than sukhumvit but still has a solid cluster of bars and cafes around the bts station. the soi's off the main drag are dead quiet during the day, perfect for sleeping in. plus you can walk to places like jhamjit or ba hao for drinks without needing a cab. only catch is fewer late-night options past midnight compared to thonglor, but for your hours that prob won't matter.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
