Early Saturday morning had bad stomach aches, then body started to ache throughout the day, today woke up with complete body pain, in bed since, thrown up once. Is this a common ailment out here? If we go to the hospital is there a way to go about it?

yeah honestly that sounds like a lot of people i know have been dealing with lately. the combo of stomach issues and full body aches is super common here this time of year, often its some kind of viral thing or food poisoning from the heat. if u go to a hospital, bkk has a bunch of private ones like bnh or samitivej where they speak english and you can just walk in, no appointment needed. just bring your passport and expect to pay a bit more than a public hospital, but the process is way faster and less stressful

It does sound like what a lot of people pick up here, especially with the heat and sudden rain we've had. If you can keep water down, try rehydration salts from any pharmacy, they're cheap and work better than plain water. For the hospital, I'd skip the big tourist spots and head to MedPark on Ratchada, it's newer and usually less crowded than Bumrungrad, plus you can book a slot on their app before you even leave your hotel room.

I'd say it's pretty common yeah, especially with how the weather's been flipping between hot and rainy. If you want to avoid the super crowded tourist hospitals, try Sukhumvit Hospital on Sukhumvit 13, it's a bit more low-key but still has English speaking staff. Just bring your passport and some cash.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
