if you're near the river, khlong toei market isn't a night market exactly but it's open late and way less polished than the tourist spots. the jewelry stalls are scattered near the back by the food section, mostly vintage gold and silver pieces that families have been selling for decades. for clothes, skip the main aisles and check the side sois off rama iv road where local resellers dump bulk vintage finds for like 50-100 baht each. just be aware it's grimy and cash only, bring small bills

honestly i'd skip the big touristy ones and hit up patpong night market, yeah it's known for the seedy stuff but the top floor has solid vintage clothes and some antique stalls that don't jack up prices for farangs. for jewelry the little soi off silom near the bts has a few older ladies selling handmade silver pieces around 300-600 baht, way better quality than khao san road stuff. just be ready to haggle a bit and check for hallmarks if you're after real silver

talad rot fai srinakarin is your spot, it's huge and has a whole section of vintage clothes and random antiques that's way better than the tourist traps. for jewelry specifically look for the stalls near the old car area, there's a few women who set up with real silver and gemstone pieces for like 200-500 baht. get there around 7pm or later, it's a maze so wear comfy shoes and bring cash since some stalls don't take card

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
