The second market depends on whether we go on Saturday or Friday. If we go on Saturday, we would go to Tha Ka Floating Market. If we go on Friday, we would go to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Our schedule is flexible so I'm wondering which of the Tha Ka or Damnoen Saduak market is better so we can choose which day to go on the tour. The first market is the Maeklong Railway Market, also known as Talad Rom Hub.

Out of Tha Ka Floating Market and Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, which is better? Also, any info you have on either of these or the Maeklong Railway Market would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Between the two, Damnoen Saduak is the one you actually want to see. Tha Ka is fine if you're into sleepy village vibes but it's pretty dead by 11am and you'll be done in 20 minutes. Damnoen Saduak has the proper canal chaos with ladies paddling and yelling at you to buy their fruit, it's the whole tourist thing but that's what you came for right

For Maeklong, the train times are like 8:30, 11:10, 14:30 and 17:40 roughly, check the board when you get there cause they shift. Stand near the middle of the market where the stalls are most dramatic, not right at the station entrance. Grab some grilled pork skewers from the lady with the blue cart near the 7-Eleven side, 10 baht each and way better than the tourist stalls

honestly, go friday for damnoen saduak. yeah it's touristy but it's the full experience with the canal chaos and boats packed with souvenirs and food, tha ka is more like a weekend village market that happens to be on water, you'll see more actual locals selling homemade stuff but it's not the iconic floating market you see in pictures. for maeklong, just remember the train schedule, it comes through like 8 times a day, grab a spot near the station where you can see the stalls pull back and then snap shut, that's the money shot. get a coconut ice cream from one of the vendors near the tracks while you wait

If you're flexible, go Friday for Damnoen Saduak. It's the most famous one for a reason, but you'll want to get there by 8am before the tourist mobs show up and the vendors get pushy. Tha Ka is smaller and more local-feeling, but it's also way quieter and some stalls might not even be open if you arrive late. The Maeklong Railway Market is fun for the train gimmick, but don't expect to buy much there, it's mostly produce and not souvenirs. Just stand clear when the horn blows.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
