Peppermint Patty import?

This is an incredibly odd request, but is anyone traveling to Bangkok soon and willingly to bring some Peppermint Patties? I am very happy to pay a good price. The backstory is I'm trying to have the best Secret Santa gift of the year.

honestly you might have better luck checking the import candy shops around siam square or emporium, they sometimes stock york peppermint patties if that's similar enough. villa market in thong lo also carries random american candy from time to time, i've seen reese's and hershey's there before. if u really need the exact brand, maybe post in the bangkok expat facebook groups, someone coming from the US might grab a couple bags for u

If you're set on the exact York brand, check the Candy House stall on the 4th floor of Siam Paragon, they've had them in stock around the holidays before. It's a small kiosk near the food court, not the main grocery section. Otherwise, hitting up the US expat groups on Facebook is your best bet, someone flying back after Christmas might toss a few bags in their suitcase for you.

There's a shop called Tops at CentralWorld that's got a surprisingly solid international candy section, and I've seen York Peppermint Patties there before, which are basically the same thing. If you're set on the original York brand, that's your best bet without needing someone to haul them from the US. Just check the import aisle near the baking stuff, they usually keep them stocked around the holidays.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
