I live in Bangkok and I need to move some furniture and other heavy decor pieces around the house, up/down floors etc. Best guess is this will be a 1-hour job for two motivated workers.

Where do I find someone to do this kind of odd job? Any moving company that would offer this type of service?

i'd skip the apps entirely, they're too slow for a one-off job. go down to your nearest soi with a construction site, the foreman always has 2-3 guys sitting around waiting. they're used to hauling cement bags up 5 floors, your sofa will be nothing. pay them 400-500 each and they'll be happy, just bring cash and don't haggle too hard.

if you're in a bigger building, the loading dock guys are the real hidden gem. they move stuff in and out all day, and they'll do a side job for like 300 baht if you catch them between deliveries. just tip the security guard 100 baht to look the other way, it's worth it.

one thing nobody mentioned: check the width of your elevator door and the stairwell before you call anyone. i had a wardrobe stuck on a landing once, cost me an extra 500 baht and a lot of sweating. measure first, it saves you the drama.

the facebook groups are prob your best bet if you're not near a talat, search "Bangkok movers" or "Thai handyman" and you'll get a ton of posts. there's also this guy named Khun Somchai who runs a small pickup truck operation out of Thong Lo, he's done odd jobs for my building a few times, charges like 800 baht flat for under 2 hours. his LINE id is somchai_van but he's slow to reply, so call him directly, number's usually on the facebook post.

if you're in a condo, the juristic office often has a list of trusted dudes for exactly this, they'll even send someone from the security staff if you tip them 200 baht. just don't hire the guys hanging around the 7-Eleven at 2am, they're drunk half the time and you'll end up with a scratched floor. also, measure your doorways before they come, i once had a couch that didn't fit and the guys charged double for "extra time" to figure out the disassembly.

u prob overthinking this honestly. the loading dock guys at any decent condo or office tower are the move, they literally do this all day and take side cash without blinking. hit up the security guard at the main entrance, slip him 100 baht and ask who handles the heavy stuff, he'll point you to a guy who'll bring a mate and finish in 30 mins flat for like 400 each.

only real tip i got that no one's said yet: check if your building has a freight elevator, most do but they're tucked in the back near the trash room. if u can get access, tell the guys upfront and they'll probably knock 100-200 off the quote since they wont be wrestling up stairs. also, dont schedule it for lunch hour, those dudes vanish for 45 mins and come back smelling like pad kaprao, then wanna take a nap before starting.

one more thing, if ur furniture has glass tops or fragile bits, tape a note on each piece before they arrive. they wont read ur mind and theyre not gonna ask, they just grab and go. had a mate lose a coffee table top that way, guy said "not my problem" and walked. cash exact change, they never have it, and a 20 baht tip each goes a long way for future favors.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Their som tam is prob the most authentic I've found in the city, and the grilled chicken is always on point. Anyone else go here?

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
