Is every part of Bangkok "active" 24/7?
But I want to move out of "downtown" to one of th… I live in Asoke and work a nightshift (9PM to 5AM) from home. Living here is great because I can go out for food at 3AM, and there's plenty going on.
But I want to move out of "downtown" to one of the more peripheral areas of Bangkok (Lad Phrao, Bang Na, Sathorn, Thonburi, etc.), but I'm worried that the nightshift would be harder if the area is dead after 10PM.
So I'm wondering if the 24/7 activity of Asoke is the exception or the rule in Greater Bangkok.
Asoke is definitely the exception, not the rule. Most of Lad Phrao and Thonburi quiet down significantly after midnight, with only a few 7-Elevens and maybe a street stall or two still open. Bang Na is a bit better near the big malls like Mega Bangna, but even then you're looking at a 10-15 minute walk or drive to find anything open past 1AM.
Your best bet if you want a similar vibe but slightly cheaper rent is somewhere along Sukhumvit between On Nut and Udomsuk. The BTS runs late enough to get you back to Asoke area food spots if needed, and there are clusters of late-night places around the On Nut market and W District.
if you're okay with a bit of a commute, check around bang khae or rat burana. not much nightlife but there's always a few street food carts and 7-elevens within walking distance. you'll save a ton on rent and it's still easy to grab a quick bite at 3am
ngl you're overthinking this a bit. most of greater bangkok is dead after midnight except for the odd 7-eleven or soi dog. but if you really want a middle ground, try along ratchadaphisek road near huai khwang. that area has a solid late night food scene with the夜市 and karaoke spots staying open till 3-4am. it's not as intense as asoke but you'll never go hungry at 2am. plus rent is way cheaper than sukhumvit.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
