Hey,

I was in Bangkok in 2022/2023 and am going again in December.

Can anyone recommend some places to stay on AirBnB for weeks/months? I am asking because Bangkok is growing and changing fast, so maybe somethings have changed.

honestly skip airbnb for long stays, check the facebook groups like "bangkok expat housing" or "bkk apartment for rent" instead. tons of condo owners post there directly, no service fees, and you can negotiate monthly rates way below what's on airbnb. i found a place in on nut near the bts for 12k baht a month that way, airbnb wanted 18k. just make sure to ask for a video call walkthrough first, some listings are scams or the building's under renovation. also, the new yellow line extension opened up places like bang kapi and lat phrao, you get way more space for the money if u don't mind a longer commute

tbh most of the new listings are in thonglor or ekkamai now, super pricey but nice if u want the cafe vibe. i'd check around ari or phra khanong instead, way better value and still close to the bts. for long stays, message hosts before booking, a lot of them will drop the monthly rate 20-30% off the listed price, especially if u ask in thai or use google translate. also avoid anything near the new grey line construction, it's loud af rn.

The AirBnB scene has shifted a bit since 2022, but the biggest change I've noticed is around Phrom Phong and Asok. A ton of older condos there got fully renovated and listed as "boutique" stays, so you can snag a decent studio with a proper kitchenette for around 14-16k a month if you book direct after the first week. The catch is most of them have minimum 3 month contracts now, which actually works in your favor if you're staying a while.

For something different, check out the units in the newer towers near Phra Khanong BTS, specifically around Sukhumvit 71. They're mostly Thai-owned so less tourist markup, and the new night market on On Nut Road has made the area way livelier than 2022. I'd skip the ones with "luxury" in the title, they're usually just adding a pool you'll never use and bumping the price 30%. Also, if you're staying a month plus, ask if they'll do a weekly cleaning swap for a small discount on the rate, most will bite since it's less turnover hassle for them.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
