Hey there!

I would like to ask you did someone here been ti Bangkok post 11th November? Because the entry free visa is only valid till Nov11,2024. I would like to know whats the situation now and what are the prerequisites now to enter thailand? Is there any official announcement by government that they are extending this? I saw on social media few days ago that thai govt provided indefinite free visa to indians upto 60days but still not what is it. Can someone here help me please?

yeah so that 60 day thing is real, it's not indefinite though. thai cabinet approved extending the visa exemption for indians (and a bunch of other nationalities) to 60 days, but it's tied to the new travel rules that started dec 1st. the nov 11th date was just the old 30 day waiver expiring.

basically right now, if you fly in, you get 60 days at immigration, no visa needed. just need a passport valid 6 months, proof of onward travel (they do check sometimes), and enough cash if they ask, usually 10k baht or equivalent. no official "extension announcement" for the old scheme because they replaced it with a better one.

one thing people miss: the 60 days starts from your arrival stamp, not from the date you booked. so if you land nov 20th, you're good until jan 19th. also they're strict about the return ticket, make sure it's within 60 days or you might get pulled aside. i'd check the thai embassy in new delhi website just to be safe, but the immigration officers at bkk are pretty chill with indians these days.

just landed last week so i can confirm it works. the 60 days is for real, they stamped me without even asking for documents besides the passport. the cash thing is more of a formality, they never asked me but i saw a guy get pulled aside for not having a return ticket, so dont skip that.

one thing nobody mentions: the 60 day exemption also covers land border entries but only twice per calendar year, if you cross from cambodia or laos you might get a shorter stamp. flying in is the safest bet.

for the official source, the thai ministry of foreign affairs put out a press release around nov 20th, not the embassy. check their site, it lists the 93 countries including india. social media posts are mostly recycled news, the actual rule is live at the immigration counters now.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
